Connecting the FIM3040 Sensor to BCore100 (PART 2)

Now that we have enrolled a master fingerprint using the PC in Part 1 of this tutorial, we can start moving it to a stand-alone embedded platform.

Using the same setup as shown in the previous tutorial, we're going to make the following hardware changes. (nothing much to it, not to worry)

Here's a block diagram to show the difference.

Follow the illustration below and make the neccesary changes.

FIM3040 Interface to BCore

Make the following changes to the PC connection setup.

  1. Detach the USB to UART converter and connect the end of the connector to COMM2 of the BCore100 Board.
  2. Use the USB to UART converter with a Comm.Key Cable and the USB Cable as included in the set shown here. This will be our download key for the BCore100.
  3. Use the BCore100 Board to supply the 3.3V required on the Perf Board. (Power markings can be seen on the board itself or from the documentation.)
  4. Connect the BCore to a 2.83inch OLED board as shown in the tutorial here.
  5. Use the OLED Board to supply the 5V required on the Perf Board. (Power markings can be seen on the board itself or from the documentation.)

The entire setup propped up properly should now look like this.

The RS232 Circuit on the perf board is below the FIM3040 Main Board.

In Part 3, we'll start communicating to the FIM3040 Sensor through serial communication. Stay Tuned!
